After the speeches, the auctions and the dining at the annual Breast Cancer Foundation gala on Saturday, it was time for the ‘boombastic’ Shaggy to take to the stage and round off an evening of glitz, glamour and, above all, generosity.
The ballroom at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, was packed with 650 patrons clad in all shades of pink to show their support for a charity that, for 15 years, has been a lifeline for woman, and men, suffering from breast cancer, offering early detection and lifesaving support.
The charity on Monday was still tallying the funds raised at the event, but some of the auction items sold on Saturday raised tens of thousands of dollars.
The big ticket raffle item was a trip to Miami for a Taylor Swift concert, which included three nights in a hotel.
In the assured hands of auctioneer and compere for the evening, Vicki Wheaton, dinner for 10 with Governor Jane Owen was auctioned off at $31,000, while two winter wonderland trips to see the New York Ballet sold for $12,000 each.
