(Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands – Tuesday, 12 November 2024) – The John Gray High School Parents and Teachers Association (JGHS PTA) has announced the cancellation of the 75th JGHS Alumni Anniversary Gala & Celebrations due to financial constraints. Despite the committee’s efforts, slow uptake in sponsorships and ticket sales did not reach levels necessary to support the event fully and has made it financially unfeasible to proceed as planned.
“The decision to cancel reflects the committee’s commitment to prudent financial stewardship, as it would be fiscally irresponsible to continue with an underfunded event,” said Mrs Marva Reid, JGHS PTA President.
The planning committee extended its gratitude to those who supported the event, including a small number of private sector sponsors, alumni, and community members, the Hon. Kenneth Bryan, Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism & Ports, and Social Development & Innovation, and Hon. Dwayne Seymour, Minister for Border Control, Labour & Culture, Sustainability & Climate Resiliency, and Wellness.
Originally scheduled to include a gala and a commemorative church service, the 75th Anniversary Celebration was intended to bring together alumni for a memorable weekend that honoured the school’s legacy.
“Although we cannot gather to celebrate as planned, for this specific milestone, the spirit of JGHS endures, and we look forward to future opportunities to honour the legacy of our school and its alumni,” Mrs Reid added.
