The first ever Rec Room 5K ‘Movember’ run took place on Saturday 23 Nov., with first place going to Enrico Carmassi, who finished with a time of just under 20 minutes.
The race started at 7am at the Grove on West Bay Road, where over 100 participants headed off towards Lone Star Bar and Grill, where they looped around and headed back for the finishing line at the Grove.
Coming in second was Colm Dawson, and finishing third was Mario Bush. The first female to cross the line was Lauren Nelson, who was in 10th place overall.
Brian Walpole, the founder of the Rec Room 5K, said, “It was incredible to see so many in the community come out and support such a great cause and raise money for Cayman Islands Cancer Society, we got lucky with the cool Christmas Breeze and a dry morning. We are delighted to have raised $3,500 dollars so far, with more to come hopefully throughout the month of November.”
Both members and non members of the Rec Room took part in the charity run.
The Rec Room is a fitness centre at the Grove, encompassing over 15,000 square feet of fitness facilities spread over two buildings.
According to Brian Walpole, “The Rec Room offers a completely unique experience for all fitness enthusiasts.”
