The First Assembly of God Cayman Islands will once again highlight the story of Jesus’s birth at its 11th annual musical extravaganza, ‘The Singing Christmas Tree: A Celebration of Joy, Hope and Faith’ from 30 Nov. to 1 Dec.

The ‘Singing Christmas Tree’ will be held over two evenings, Saturday and Sunday, starting at 6pm at the Lions Centre.

A towering, artificial, 21-foot-tall Christmas tree, filled with some 5,000 computer-controlled lights, will serve as a stage for a talented cast, choir, orchestra and soloists, who will bring the tree to life with music.

“At its core, the ‘Singing Christmas Tree‘ reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas, keeping ‘Christ’ in Christmas and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. In a time where the holiday season is often overshadowed by commercialisation, this event stands as a radiant beacon of faith, hope and unity,” Clordene Lloyd, the event’s committee member, told the Cayman Compass.

Making an iconic tree

Lloyd explained the massive undertaking of constructing the tree as “an extraordinary feat that requires months of meticulous planning and collaboration. From designing and construction of the iconic tree to organising rehearsals and coordinating every element of the programme, the effort involves singers, musicians, technicians and volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes.”

At the helm of the ‘Singing Christmas Tree’ is a team led by Reverend Elsa Bobb, the executive director, “who orchestrates the production with unwavering passion and precision. Their collective efforts ensure that every detail is executed flawlessly, from the creative vision to the final rehearsal.

“It’s a journey of dedication and teamwork, reflecting the love and care that goes into creating this cherished holiday tradition,” Lloyd noted.

“The ‘Singing Christmas Tree’ has become more than just a tradition, it is a powerful expression of the community’s shared faith and an opportunity to reflect on the season’s divine purpose.”

A blend of talent

Organisers said the free family event “promises to be an unforgettable celebration, featuring a stunning blend of local and international talent”.

Lloyd said, “This year’s programme includes performances by renowned soloists Jeff Ferguson and Reba Rambo, alongside the return of beloved artists like Gillian Seecharan from Trinidad and Ainsley and Mortimer Blair from Jamaica.”

The annual event will also feature group performances by UCCI Performing Arts and Dance Expressions, and “instrumental highlights will include the enchanting sounds of a bagpipe with an Iris touch, a talented violinist, and the vibrant rhythms of pan music”.

A new element to this year’s event includes a ‘pre-tree’ segment, designed for children and a delightful addition for families to enjoy.

“We wish for families and friends to create cherished memories, for acts of kindness to ripple through the island, and for the joy of Christmas to remind us of the blessings we share,” Lloyd added.

“Above all, may the celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth renew our faith and bring peace to all.”

A 10th-anniversary, commemorative ‘Singing Christmas Tree’ magazine will be on sale at the event.
