In 2024, Cayman First marked a significant milestone – 40 years of dedicated service to the Cayman Islands.

To celebrate, the leading local insurance provider recently hosted a cocktail reception at the Kimpton Seafire Resort and  Spa, honouring the individuals and organisations that have been instrumental in its four-decade journey.

The event brought together more than 200 guests, including Cayman First’s local and international business partners, community stakeholders, shareholders, industry peers, and valued employees.

Founded in 1984, Cayman First has grown from a general insurance provider to a leading insurer in the Cayman Islands, offering property, motor, liability, and health insurance. The company has been a subsidiary of Bahamas First Holdings Limited since 2010.

Giving back with a ‘40 for 40’ charitable initiative

As part of its anniversary celebrations, Cayman First has focused on giving back to the community that has supported its success.

Through its ‘40 for 40’ initiative, the company pledged $40,000 in 2024 to local charities and non-profit organisations aligned with its mission to serve, support and safeguard the Cayman Islands.

The beneficiaries of this initiative include LIFE Cayman, the Lighthouse School, Plastic Free Cayman, Cayman Athletic FC, and the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Cayman Islands.

“Our mission inspires us to leverage our business of insurance every day to create a positive impact for us all – as an insurance provider, employer, and community partner,” said Cayman First chief executive officer, Mr. Chris Hind. “We want to be a part of driving transformative change so we can all thrive today and well into the future.”

Building community spirit

In addition to its financial contributions, this year Cayman First has implemented initiatives to deepen its community impact.

The Cayman First team marks Green Friday by volunteering with The National Trust for the Cayman Islands.

Employees committed to volunteering 40 hours of their time for community service projects throughout the year, reflecting the company’s values in action.

Internally, Cayman First launched ‘First Fridays’, a monthly celebration held on the first Friday of each month to foster camaraderie and team spirit among employees.

It also continued its long-standing employee-driven charitable initiative, Charities of Firsts. As part of the programme, staff members donate a portion of their salaries each month, matched by the company, to local non-profit organisations of their choice.

In 2024, thanks to this ongoing generosity, Cayman First has contributed over $21,500 to 12 local organisations and programmes.

Looking back, and now forward

Looking back at its journey to 40, earlier in the year Cayman First was joined by former chairman Gordon Philip, who, along with Mr. Hind and several long-serving employees, spoke to the entire staff in depth about the company’s past, present and future.

As Cayman First nears the end of its 40th anniversary year, it continues to exemplify a commitment to not only protecting its clients but also enriching the community it has proudly served for four decades.
