What’s new in the 345

Whether it’s a restaurant, business, or product line, What’s Hot highlights what’s new in Cayman.

Cock-a-doodle-roo

A new local children’s book has been released utilising local illustrated characters relevant to Cayman.

The storyline idea came to author Julia Flanagan while walking through her neighbourhood.

She came across a rooster who couldn’t quite get out his call. The first phrase of the book instantly came to Julia, and the rest is history.

“Roo is different and not like the other roosters,” explains Julia. “He goes on a journey of self discovery, meeting friends along the way, and ultimately saves the day. I hope that it will inspire kindness and self-acceptance.”

Local artist Hannah Cook illustrated the book and self-published it with Julia. Drawing from her experience advocating for children with special educational needs, Hannah brings a deep understanding of how to foster self-confidence, acceptance, and empathy through art, bringing these skills to Roo’s story.

The first signing event for the book took place at Amé during Camana Bay’s Shoppers Night Out in November.

The book is available at local bookstores and hotels, including Kassette, Little Angels, Bedside Manor, Riviera, Pure Art, Cayman Scents, 3 Girls and a Kiln and The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park gift store. It is also available through the book’s website.

Good Guys Wash Stack

Commuters cruising Huldah Avenue may have been patiently watching the building of a new car wash.

Now open to the public 24/7, Good Guys Wash Stack’s cleaning offerings include three automatic ‘In Bay’ options (two touchless and one soft touch) which take 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the service; self-service wash options; self-service vacuums; Rohelio’s express interior detailing; and Rohelio’s luxury hand wash. A pet wash is also coming soon.

The car wash is environmentally minded, treating and reusing up to 90% of the water used, through an underground water recycling plant beneath the car wash.

Good Guys also uses a loopedin water collection system to recover rainwater, electric motors for energy conservation, and eco-friendly chemicals which are gentle on vehicles and the planet. Solar options are also in the company’s future plans.

Good Guys supports local initiatives and engages in charitable activities. Its Wash Club offers unlimited washes and vacuums for members.

Brookie’s Cookies

Caribbean Plaza is the new home of Brookie’s Cookies, which has opened it’s long awaited physical storefront.

Brooke Soto has been making delicious cookies from scratch for a range of events since the company’s founding in 2018.

Using her artistic skills, born from a background in architecture and design, Brooke started by creating unicorn cookies for her step-daughter Sierra’s birthday party.

Word of mouth grew the business, with Brooke making 80 to 120 dozen cookies weekly from her home kitchen. In November, she opened the doors to the bakeshop.

The store is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-6pm, with plans to extend hours soon.

As well as made-to-order cookies, the shop offers open cookie decorating for those who want to decorate whenever the mood strikes.

Brooke will soon expand into offering baking retail goods, kids camps, and kids birthday parties and events, where customers can decorate their own cookies. A similar event for adults, called Cookies and Cocktails is also in the works.

Customer cookie favourites include the vanilla swirl sugar cookie, s’mores cookie, oatmeal dream pies, brown butter brownies, dirt worm and shark attack crunch cookies.

San Si Wu Noodle Co.

San Si Wu’s long-awaited reopening has finally happened.

Originally opening its doors in 2022 in a small space in Cannon Place, the popular noodle joint was in need of a larger kitchen from which to expand the menu, and more seating for guests.

Following a short hiatus, the restaurant has now reopened in Caribbean Plaza, offering lunch and dinner seven days a week, from 11am until late, with the kitchen closing at 10pm.

San Si Wu offers Chinese dishes with a focus on street food. Signature items include Chinese noodles, Dan Dan noodles, and dumplings, which are customer favourites. New popular dishes include sweet and sour chicken, chicken wings, noodle options, and various vegetarian choices.

The restaurant is operated by Prime Group, which encompasses a private chef and catering business, Carnivore Premium Meats in Camana Bay, and Lucky Rabbit in Grand Harbour.

The company has more expansion plans in the works for 2025.
