Jamaican-American reggae singer and musician Tarrus Riley is set to perform at the Roots, Rock, Reggae concert on Saturday, 1 March, as a curtain-raiser for the 56th annual Agriculture Show.

“The CIAS is extremely pleased and excited to feature Tarrus Riley in concert,” Justin Woods, president of the Cayman Islands Agricultural Society, told the Cayman Compass.

Omar ‘Tarrus’ Riley, 45, the son of legendary singer Jimmy Riley, was born in New York and raised in Jamaica. The world-renowned reggae singer is widely known for his 2006 hit song ‘She’s Royal’, from his first album, ‘Parables’, which has been certified silver in the United Kingdom, after selling over 200,000 units there.

His musical repertoire consists of six albums, with popular songs including ‘Beware,’ ‘Good Girl Gone Bad,’ ‘Start Anew’, ‘Lion Paw’, and ‘Contagious’. His latest release is ‘John John Reggae Riddims: Fuss & Fight – EP’.

His decades-long music career has included high-profile performances across the Caribbean, US and UK, and he has garnered many accolades and awards including a nomination for a Soul Train Music Award in 2009, and winning the Youth View Awards, EME Awards, and Reggae Academy Awards.

In 2014, Riley released his album ‘Love Situation’, which debuted at number one on that year’s Billboard Reggae Albums chart.

Woods noted that holding special events are an important tool to help promote agriculture to the wider community.

“The CIAS has always strived to bring awareness to the importance of agriculture and food security,” he said. “Therefore, over the years we’ve utilised multiple events and activities to promote and educate the public of the small but dedicated agricultural community here in the Cayman Islands. A concert is a very entertaining and memorable way to help meet that objective.”

Woods also confirmed that “supporting acts and local artists” will also be performing on the night, but did not disclose their names.

Organised by Monster Media in partnership with CIAS, the Roots, Rock, Reggae concert will be held on Saturday, 1 March at the Agricultural Fair Grounds, Bodden Town. Gates open at 6pm.

Tickets, at $35 for general admission, $55 for VIP, can be purchased via the Eventpro website.
