From the sunset views off The Ritz-Carlton hotel, to celebrity-created cuisine at the Cayman Cookout, Formula 1 star George Russell has been enjoying the West Indies.

Russell, 26, a three-time F1 Grand Prix winner, made a pit stop in Grand Cayman before gearing up for what will be his first year leading the charge for Mercedes, after the departure of Lewis Hamilton, who has signed with Ferrari.

Over his visit, Russell has shared photos in social media of walking the white sands of Seven Mile Beach and relaxing on a boat with his girlfriend Carmen Mundt, saying, “George in George Town.” He added, “Always an incredible stay at the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman.”

Cayman continues to welcome celebrity sporting stars to compete, train or vacation, including Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson, Cayman’s own Kyffin Simpson who competes in IndyCar, and recently, the great Michael Jordan.

On Saturday, 18 Jan. Russell sat down with Longer Tables podcast host, chef José Andrés, for a taping on the beach, where a standing room crowd watched and cheered the speedster as he spoke about his plans for the upcoming season.

After Russell shared life stories – including his experience on island thus far and his training programme in Cayman and beyond in advance of the F1 season – he took time to take photos with fans.

“It’s just such an exciting time in the season because you are going into the unknown,” Russell said on the podcast, noting that the Mercedes team of over 2,000 people will be working tirelessly to develop his car for another successful year for Silver Arrows.

“You start from scratch, everybody starts from zero … and you’re just so motivated to get into this new season to take the fight to everybody else and fight for victory.”

Mercedes F1 champion George Russell trained in rainy conditions at The Ritz-Carlton hotel in Grand Cayman.

And though Russell was enjoying the tropics, his training didn’t slacken as he exercised under the coconut trees at The Ritz-Carlton or, as he put it, “in the jungle”.

Last year was arguably Russell’s greatest F1 season, which included his dominant triumph at Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The mega star, who began his journey in racing when he was 7, karting with brother Benjy, is projected to be the top F1 man for the 2025 season.

“I love competition. Driving a formula one car is awesome, but actually the competition part of it is what makes it so special.”
