Le Soleil d’Or, the ‘Caribbean farm inn’ on Cayman Brac, is in the spotlight for the third and final episode of the VICE Munchies X Cayman Islands series, highlighting the islands’ culinary and hospitality industry.

The nearly nine-minute episode of ‘Eating At The Caribbean’s Most Secluded Island Restaurant’, produced by the international media company in partnership with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, offers a look into the restaurant’s focus on food sustainability and its unique dining experience.

According to its website, the inn, which is owned by Dart, offers “boutique accommodation, farm-to-table dining and a warm Caymankind welcome”.

In the video, acclaimed chef Rene Sanchez takes viewers on a journey around 20 acres of the farm’s gardens. It combines scenes of the Brac’s natural beauty with the range of produce being grown.

The farm features over 300 varieties of produce, including “tropical favourites like mangoes, guava, sweet sop, sour sop, guineps and plantain; Mediterranean staples and herbs”, which are used in the inn’s kitchen.

Sanchez noted in the video, “We will try to give you the experience and the freshness from the ground to your hands.”

He added, “Every single item, it will be produced on this farm … We go around, we choose the best ones or the ones that they are telling us to be cooked, and then we go back to the kitchen, and that’s where we start to create, based on what we have daily.”

Sanchez, who is from El Salvador, shared in the video, “Waking up early in the morning before the sun comes up, and then be able to come here on top of the bluff, having this perfect view, I think is one of the best experience that I ever had.”

Amar Thottathil, manager of the hotel, told the Cayman Compass, “We were thrilled to have the Vice Media team come to Cayman Brac to capture the beauty and magic of Le Soleil d’Or Farm and experience the culinary delights at The Farm restaurant…

“It was a fantastic opportunity provided through the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism that allowed us to share our piece of paradise with the world through the Vice Media platform. Everything was beautifully captured, highlighting Cayman Brac as the ideal spot for a quiet getaway and intimate world-class dining.”

Cayman’s multi-faceted talent

Rosa Harris, director of the Department of Tourism, told the Compass, “This series was an opportunity to showcase the multi-faceted talent in Cayman’s culinary offerings from street food to local cuisine to cocktail culture to farm-to-table.”

She added, “We look forward to continuing to highlight local businesses and showcase local voices on an international stage with our promotions throughout 2025.”

Local chef Diego Smith’s street-food business, D’s Pizza, was featured in the first episode of the VICE Munchies docuseries, which highlighted his culinary journey along with his deep-dish, Detroit-style pizza with an authentic Caymanian twist.

Restaurant owners Luigi and Christina Moxam of Cayman Cabana were featured in the second episode, ‘Caribbean Chef’s Night Out: A Taste of Paradise’, which explored the island’s food-and-drink scene with the show’s producers.
