For a limited time, passengers on Cayman Airways’ international jet flights can sample the Caribbean’s first-ever, airline-branded craft beer — a partnership between the flagship carrier and the island’s premier, local brewery, Caybrew.
Sir Turtle’s Sky Brew is the latest addition to the airline’s growing inflight menu, which also includes Seven Fathoms Rum Punch, a partnership with Cayman Spirits Company.
“Just as our complimentary rum punch has become a signature part of the Cayman Airways experience, Sky Brew represents another authentic celebration of local talent and craftsmanship, offering our passengers a unique taste of Cayman before they even land,” said Paul Tibbetts, CAL’s chief financial officer and executive vice president for commercial affairs, in a statement.

Cayman Airways says that it worked with Caybrew for several months to develop a refreshing and balanced flavour profile that would be true to its new motto — “uniquely Caymanian”. Creating “the best blend for the best taste at 30,000 feet” was another consideration, as lower pressure and dry air are said to impact taste, carbonation and even smell.
The new brew is said to offer “a pleasant aroma and clean finish” while re-imagining “the bold flavors you expect from a classic India Pale Ale, while delivering a uniquely smooth and refreshing character” tailored for high altitudes.
Mark Haring, Caybrew’s brand manager, described the flavour “as an exclusive brew that captures the essence of our islands in every sip”.
The brew, which was launched on 22 May, will be offered on a sample basis for an introductory period, and will retail for $6.
Since it is only offered inflight on the airline’s overseas flights, international travellers will have one more reason to keep coming back for more.
The new offering coincides with CAL’s announcement of an expanded summer lineup that includes Montego Bay, Kingston, Denver, Miami, Tampa, New York, Los Angeles, La Ceiba, Panama and Havana.
“Cayman Airways is known for offering the most international nonstop flights to and from the Cayman Islands,” said Olivia Scott-Ramirez, CAL’s senior marketing and public relations manager.
While Cayman Airways is the first airline in the Caribbean to launch its own signature beer, it joins international carriers British Airways, Icelandair, Korean Air, Alaska Airways, Cathay Pacific and Scandinavian Airlines, which have launched their own brews in recent years.
