I’ve known Andrel Harris since we were just kids – back in primary school, when life was simple, and we were still figuring out who we wanted to be. Even then, Andrel stood out. He was the one with the quick wit, the kind smile, and a sense of calm beyond his years.
We moved through middle school together, growing side by side. I remember him being sharp, thoughtful, and always respectful – never the loudest in the room, but always one of the most grounded. He carried that same quiet strength with him into high school, and we graduated together in 2009, full of dreams and possibilities.
Andrel turned those dreams into purpose. Watching him become a respected journalist, someone who told the stories that mattered and gave voice to the unheard, made all of us who knew him early on incredibly proud.
It’s hard to accept that he’s gone. But those of us who shared classrooms, hallways, laughter, and years of memories with him – we will never forget the heart he carried and the impact he made. From a classmate to a community voice, Andrel was always someone special.
Andrel, you will always be missed, and you will always be remembered.
