Two carnival groups are to let bygones be bygones and continue to join forces for CayMAS despite a legal dispute that threatened to derail the partnership.
A joint statement by the CayMAS Committee and Fete For A Cause non-profit organisation on Thursday announced they are “moving forward together” for this year’s festivities.
The joint statement said, “After open dialogue and a shared commitment to culture, community, and purpose, we are excited to welcome Fete For A Cause to the road this year.”
The welcome news comes after Fete For A Cause, an initiative to support people affected by cancer, was caught in the crossfire of a “legal matter” between a third-party business and a former CayMAS board member, ultimately banning the group from participating.
The ban didn’t go over well, with many supporters of the carnival and the non-profit organisation taking to social media to voice their concern and disappointment, as well as encouraging the two entities to put aside their differences in the interest of what the band represents.
The statement noted, “This collaboration represents more than just a band joining the parade; it symbolizes unity, progress, and the power of coming together for something greater.”
The statement added that this partnership “brings meaning to every moment on the road. We look forward to working together welcoming both local and international masqueraders as we share this incredible journey on the road together for years to come.”
Fete For A Cause invites revellers to jump with them on Saturday, 5 July for the CayMAS Adult Parade, “as we celebrate life, honour those we’ve lost, uplift survivors, and support those still fighting.”
All proceeds from Fete For A Cause will go directly to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society.
The organisation said, “Every dollar raised, every garment worn, and every step on the road is a tribute to them.”
