Security officers in Camana Bay’s Town Centre are being outfitted with body-worn cameras.

The Dart property management team announced the move on Tuesday, stating it is being done to enhance safety for Camana Bay tenants and visitors.

Marvin Cox, Dart’s vice president of property management, said the new security measure was supported by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, which is also planning to implement bodycams for most of its frontline officers.

“The introduction of body-worn cameras by our security officers is a proactive step toward reducing the likelihood of altercations and ensuring that, should any incidents occur, they are accurately documented,” Cox said.

“These devices can help with de-escalating potentially volatile situations, while also providing clear, objective evidence when needed.”

He added, “This reflects our commitment to creating a safe and respectful environment for everyone that visits Camana Bay, even if it is just five minutes for a casual stroll or attending one of the many community events which we host here.”

Robert Atkin, RCIPS assistant commissioner, commended the Camana Bay team for implementing the cameras.

“This collaboration [between RCIPS and Dart] has continuously resulted in positive outcomes,” he said.

“Undoubtedly, body-worn cameras have been proven to enhance public trust, and provide valuable documentation that supports law enforcement and community safety. I am sure this introduction will allow the Camana Bay team to further enhance their security capability.”

The body-worn cameras will used by on-duty Camana Bay security officers and will be visibly placed on the officer wearing them, Dart noted. The company said the cameras will be used only in public spaces within the Town Centre and will capture both audio and video only when activated.

In an FAQ section on the camanabay.com website, Dart said that all recorded footage would be securely stored, with access to the footage restricted to essential personnel only. The footage will be retained for 30 days before being securely deleted, unless required for legal or investigative purposes.
