Man charged in connection with shooting incident

A 33-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences in connection with a shooting a week ago.

Police said on Wednesday, 24 Sept. that the West Bay resident faced charges of attempted robbery, wounding with intent and possession of a firearm with intent.

The man was also charged with possession of ganja and two alleged offences of a reckless and negligent act.

The arrest related to an incident on School Road in George Town at about 8:50pm on 16 Sept., when a man suffered a gunshot wound to his leg.

Police said the man was approached by two men, both wearing dark clothes who demanded cash.

It is alleged one man had a handgun and the other a machete.

The firearm allegedly went off during a struggle and the two fled the scene.

Police said the alleged gunman was arrested after officers spotted him in a car on Frank Sound Road in North Side on 21 Sept.

The driver refused to pull over and drove west along Bodden Town Road, police said. It is alleged he threw items from the car and collided with a police car.

Officers added it is alleged the man eventually stopped the car and tried to escape on foot but was detained by police.

It is further alleged that the items thrown from the man’s car were packages of ganja.

Police said more of the drug was found on the man and at his home, along with cash.
