Food lovers who would like to try more of Cayman’s restaurants but don’t want to break the bank are in luck. Restaurant Month is returning for its 12th year this October with a record number of restaurants participating in the culinary celebration, and for the first time, there will be select brunch options.
From 1 to 31 Oct., diners can enjoy three-course lunches priced between $20 and $30 and dinners between $30 and $50 (plus service charge) at 58 restaurants across Grand Cayman, some of which are taking part in Restaurant Month for the first time.
Range of restaurants
Food trucks and smaller fast-casual eateries are also taking part to reflect the variety of Cayman’s culinary scene for Restaurant Month, which acts as a curtain-raiser for the industry ahead of high season.
“October is traditionally a quieter time for dining out and this programme helps drive much-needed traffic to our members while giving residents and visitors the chance to experience Cayman’s incredible culinary talent at an exceptional value,” said Sharlene Brenkus, president of the Cayman Islands Tourism Association (CITA) which is behind the month-long initiative.
“By supporting Restaurant Month, members of the public are not only enjoying great food but they’re helping sustain the vibrant dining scene that makes Cayman the culinary capital of the Caribbean.”

A new element this year is the “Dine Around and Win” digital passport promotion where Restaurant Month patrons can use an online portal to enter to win various prizes, including Cayman Airways flights, just by visiting participating restaurants. Users increase their chances of winning with each visit they make to a different restaurant.
In addition, each Sunday, brunch lovers can indulge in one of Restaurant Month’s signature brunches that will take place across the island. This year sees the introduction of two brunches each Sunday – one on the eastern side of the island and the other in the George Town/Seven Mile Beach area.
Brunch venues
Participating brunch hosts are KARoo and La Casita (5 Oct.); Catalina at Hotel Indigo and Aria (12 Oct.); Lobster Pot and David’s Restaurant at Morritt’s Resort (19 Oct.); and Anchor & Den and Tides at Wyndham Reef Resort (26 Oct.). The prices for the brunch options vary.
CITA treasurer Markus Mueri said that Restaurant Month was “an invitation to the people of the Cayman Islands” to experience affordable three-course lunch and dinner menus in restaurants across the island.

“I believe Restaurant Month highlights our restaurants and our culinary experience.” he said. “What we have here is the choice. We go from Cayman to seafood to Indian to Italian, a little bit of everything. So it’s up to you to go to our website and look at all the restaurant menus and choose where you want to go.”
Culinary capital
Chef and restaurateur Dylan Benoit of Prime Group owns several restaurants which are taking part in Restaurant Month, including Coconut Room, Lucky Rabbit and Lui Chinese Kitchen.
“Restaurant month is a celebration of the best Cayman has to offer,” he said. “We’re known as the culinary capital of the Caribbean for a reason as we have such a high concentration of incredible quality chefs, restaurants, and beverage professionals. Restaurant Month is a great opportunity for people to experience new restaurants for the first time or visit their tried-and-trusted favorites for a reasonable price during a time of year when restaurants and their staff appreciate the additional support.”
Franck Bottero, co-owner of Vivo restaurant in West Bay, has participated in Restaurant Month over the years. He said, “At Vivo, we see Restaurant Month as a way to give back to the community that supports us all year long. It’s a chance to welcome more guests, share our food at fair prices and keep Cayman’s dining scene vibrant even in the quieter season.”

Restaurant Month is sponsored by Cayman National Bank, CMR TV, Stingray Media, Cayman Good Taste, Cayman Airways, Compass Media, Ministry of Financial Services & Commerce, Kelly Holding Events & Communications, Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and CG BritCay.

Sunshine grill used to be the only fair priced one and it doesn’t seem like they are participating now. $50 a meal for most restaurants will keep 99% of locals away.
The prices are outrageous. Nothing really in the $15-$25 range.
