Marc Langevin, who was on the opening team of The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman in 2005 and returned as the general manager of Cayman’s then only five-star resort in June 2011, left the company on Monday, 13 Oct.
His departure occurs amid reports of a probe into an alleged long-term fraud involving a substantial amount of money occurring in the resort’s purchasing department. A source with knowledge of the situation said a third-party supplier in the food and beverage industry is also involved in the alleged fraud. There is no indication that Langevin was personally involved in any fraudulent activities.
Communications from Ritz-Carlton leadership to stakeholders announcing Langevin’s departure on Monday afternoon, praised the former general manager. “We are grateful for his leadership, dedication, and the many contributions during his time and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
“He has been a guiding force, a mentor, and a steady hand through our challenges and triumphs. His commitment to excellence, his care for our team and the local community, and his passion for hospitality have left a lasting mark on our culture and our success.”
The communications said that during the transition to a new general manager, “our experienced Guidance Team will continue to oversee operations, ensuring the care of the property and the creation of memorable experiences for you”.
“During this interim period, senior leaders from Marriott International’s Caribbean and Latin America region will be on-site to support us as needed, until a new General Manager is appointed to lead us into the next chapter.”
Reached for comment, Langevin said on Wednesday that he is currently off island.
“As you can imagine, my family went through a tough emotional rollercoaster and we need a break,” he said, adding that he would contact the Compass when he returns to Grand Cayman next week.

Perhaps the biggest challenge Langevin faced during his 14-year stint as general manager was getting the Ritz-Carlton through COVID-19 pandemic era when the hotel was mainly used for staycations and quarantining returning residents for the better part of two years.
Throughout his time at The Ritz-Carlton, Langevin has been a prominent voice in Cayman’s tourism industry. He served as president of the Cayman Islands Tourism Association for two years starting from November 2020 and was a strong advocate for reopening Cayman to tourism after the COVID-19 pandemic. He also advocated for Cayman to put priority on luxury travel tourism rather than mass tourism related to cruise ships.
Langevin was employed by The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Marriott International, Inc., during three different property ownerships of The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. When he first arrived, the property was owned by developer Mike Ryan’s company. In November 2012, the property was purchased at auction by RC Cayman Holdings, an affiliate of Five Mile Capital Partners LLC.
Dart purchased The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman resort in October 2017 and has owned it ever since. Throughout each ownership, the resort has had a long-term management agreement with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company.
