A free one-day boating course to support and encourage the safe operation of commercial vessels in the Cayman Islands is being offered by the UK Maritime Coastguard Agency, in conjunction with Cayman Maritime and the Cayman Registry.
A press release issued by the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry states that, “This initiative forms part of MACI’s ongoing commitment to promoting maritime safety, professional development, and environmental stewardship within the Cayman Islands’ maritime sector.”
The training will be delivered by an industry professional from the UK and a certificate will be issued by the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands upon completion of the course.
The training covers a number of areas including:
- Responsibilities of boat skippers
- Pre-departure preparations and passage planning
- Elementary navigation techniques and communication
- Collision avoidance, safety equipment and emergency preparedness
- Pollution prevention and effective maintenance strategies
- Principles of crew management
- Accident case studies
Those who want to sign up for the course can choose one of three different days: either Thursday, Friday or Saturday, 20, 21 or 22 Nov. Each course runs from 9am-4:30pm. The course will be held at Inspire Cayman Training in George Town.
