Moves to fill vacant seats on the Health Services Authority board are under way after more than half its members quit.

Chairwoman Joy Vernon and members Hazel Brown, Tayvis Walters and Tricia McElroy resigned last week from the seven-strong body, according to sources.

The Ministry of Health confirmed it “received resignations” and “an official announcement on board matters, including next steps, will be made very shortly. Until that time, the Ministry will not comment on individual appointments, departures, or related speculation.”

Recently, the ministry announced changes to payment methods for board members from per meeting to a fixed rate monthly amount. That change was made after questions were raised about the high number of board meetings held.

It was found that the board had met 190 times over an 18-month period – more than 10 times a month – from the start of 2024 to June 2025 and members were paid more than half a million dollars in total.

  1. Monthly going rate should be in line with SAGC’s, in KYD

    Chairman 1500
    Deputy Chairman 1,250
    Other board members 750

Meet once a month, more by exception only.

Have a chief officer from health ministry plus someone from Treasury as non paid board members included in the 7.

  2. I hope they resigned due to their culpability in the meet-for-pay debacle, if they were involved, and not because their pay got docked!

Now they, and previous resignees, should pay back some of the money they contrived.
