An integrated paediatric speech, occupational and sensory therapy centre had its official opening in Camana Bay’s Kapok building on 22 Jan.

Align Kids at Align Kapok offers multiple child-focused services together under one roof. The launch of Align Kids coincided with the opening of Align Kapok, a new 5,000-plus-square-foot wellness clinic that expands the practice’s multidisciplinary services.

Align Kids offers a purpose-built children’s sensory gym, integrated with physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy, designed specifically to support children’s physical, developmental and sensory needs in a single, coordinated setting.

The approach reflects a growing recognition that early, multidisciplinary intervention can shape long-term outcomes for children and families. By removing the need to move between multiple providers and locations, the approach simplifies access to care while allowing therapists to collaborate more closely around each child.

“The philosophy that guides our work is across the entire lifespan,” said Susan Watling, medical director at Align. “From pre-postnatal care, supporting women through pregnancy … all the way to senior and geriatric care, where dignity, mobility, and quality of life are paramount.”

The Kapok facility represents the latest stage in Align’s expansion since it was founded in Camana Bay in 2017 by David Dyer, Noel Watkins and Eamon Wilson, alongside Watling.

In addition to paediatric care, the Kapok clinic introduces advanced physiotherapy technologies, including a Pelvic Health Chair, SoftWave Regeneration Therapy and Redcord Neuromuscular Therapy, as well as a new naturopathy service.

Management also announced plans to add podiatry and child psychology services later this year, with a further clinic scheduled to open in 2027.

Align Kids is staffed by five specialists. The team includes occupational therapist James Gilmour, who brings more than nine years of experience working with children with complex physical, neurodevelopmental and sensory needs. His work focuses on motor development, postural care and adaptive equipment.

The launch

The official opening included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, guided tours and live demonstrations. Speakers included members of the Align management team, Minister of Health Katherine Ebanks-Wilks and Governor Jane Owen.

The presence of senior public officials, including Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hilary Wolf and Chief Nursing Officer Felicia McLean, highlighted the broader significance of the development within Cayman’s evolving healthcare system.

Addressing attendees, Ebanks-Wilks emphasised the importance of the opening of Align Kids. “A rights-based approach to healthcare means that children are treated with dignity, that their needs are understood, and that services are delivered in ways that support their growth, their confidence and their long-term well-being,” she said.

She noted that government is working toward a unified national health strategy focused on prevention, early intervention and clearer pathways of care.

“Evidence-based approaches help ensure that care is effective, equitable and responsive at every stage of life. It is clear that early physical, emotional and developmental support shapes lifelong outcomes,” she said.

The minister added that spaces designed specifically for children reflect a deeper understanding of paediatric care.

“A space designed specifically for children recognises that they are not simply small adults, but individuals whose needs change as they grow,” she said. “It reflects a commitment to early support, coordinated care and approaches grounded in what works.”

She also highlighted the role of facilities like Align Kids within a broader health ecosystem. “Facilities such as this one expand access, support families and complement public services by contributing to a more connected continuum of care,” she said, while recognising the importance of skilled and ethical practitioners in delivering quality outcomes.

Align’s growth extends beyond Kapok. The practice now operates across four locations, including Camana Bay, Harbour Walk, Health City East End and Cayman Brac, with more than 21 therapists working across 31 treatment rooms and offering services seven days a week.

Plans are also underway to open another new clinic next year.
