Despite unpredictable weather, the 2026 Cayman Aquatics National Swimming Championships delivered four days of high-level competition and record-breaking performances.
The championships, held from 14-17 Feb. at the Camana Bay Aquatic Centre, saw mild conditions on the opening two days, testing athletes with rain showers and cooler temperatures, but the athletes and supporters kept the energy high.
Across eight sessions of racing – morning preliminaries followed by evening finals – standout performances came from both established athletes and rising stars among the 150 competitors.
Two swimmers also produced three new national age-group records.
Aadhyaan Agarwal set a new record in the 11–12 age group in the 50-metre freestyle while Harry Lawson established two new national marks in the 8-and-under category, breaking records in both the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle.
In the women’s events, Kate Galatopoulos, Lauren Travers, Riley Watson, and Sierrah Broadbelt dominated their respective races.
“Their performances confirmed Cayman’s continued strength in female swimming across multiple age categories,” said the Cayman Islands Aquatic Sports Association.
In the boys’ events, Danny Kish, Eli Bain, Lennox Turnham-Wheatley, Lev Fahy, Colt Higgo and Ben Hislop delivered commanding swims.
“Their performances underscored the competitive mindset developing within Cayman’s youth ranks,” said the association, adding, “This year’s event was further elevated by the presence of visiting swimmers from Millfield School in the United Kingdom, providing local athletes with an exciting new level of international competition and raising the intensity across multiple events.”
Beyond medals and podium finishes, the association said the championships highlighted the overall improvement in standards across all age groups, from first-time competitors to seasoned swimmers chasing qualification standards.
“The atmosphere never faltered, even in the rain. Seeing this intensity and resilience in young athletes is a clear sign that Caymanian swimming has a very bright future ahead,” said Jacky Pellerin, the association’s technical director.
