The 16th annual Off The Beaten Track ultra-marathon is one that founder Kenneth Krys describes as “a very successful event”.

The ultra-marathon, founded in 2010 by Krys after his completion of the Marathon des Sables, was held on 22 Feb., with this year’s route prepared by John Royle, an avid local runner.

Starting and finishing at NOVA in West Bay, the 50-kilometer race featured a field of 11 solo runners and 14 relay teams.

In the individual categories, Esmond Brown secured first place for the solo males with a time of 4:21:57.0, followed by Lee Demet in second at 4:28:25.2 and Dan Kelley in third at 4:34:22.0.

Emily Clarke led the solo female division, finishing in 4:48:22.8, while Kerri Kanuga took second place with a time of 5:35:47.1.

The relay divisions saw competitive finishes across the open, and corporate categories.

In the open relay, WNRC Beach You To It took the top spot in 4:08:22.5, ahead of Crossfit Cayman at 4:32:41.0 and Dollar Club at 4:52:18.5.

The corporate division was led by Deloitte, who finished in 4:16:56.7, followed by Highvern at 4:29:26.1 and KPMG at 4:47:37.5.

Registration proceeds from the event were designated to support the Alex Panton Foundation and the National Children’s Voluntary Organisation.

Reflecting on the event, Krys said, “While a smaller group than in years past, it was an incredible experience for many of the runners. Many expressed how much they liked the course and how much fun they had running it.”

He added, “Next year we may revisit West Bay or explore another possibility past Bodden Town out towards East End.”
