It was a thoroughly Spanish affair at Ms. Piper’s Kitchen + Garden restaurant on Seven Mile Beach on 15 March with paella, Spanish beer and live music on the agenda.
More than 600 residents, tourists and hotel guests enjoyed the fiesta atmosphere at Ms. Piper’s ‘Live a Little’ event, with more than 150 portions of authentic Spanish paella being consumed alongside Barcelona’s Estrella beer.
Festival atmosphere
It was the third time Ms. Piper’s has held this event and organiser Carlos Arpal, general manager of Piper Resorts, said that the event had surpassed expectations.
“It was an amazing day,” he said. “There was a real festival atmosphere with good people, good vibes, good music and great food. A Spanish summer vibe.”

Served alongside the authentic Spanish paella were BBQ treats including pork belly and smoked picanha ciabatta sandwiches and revellers were free to cool off from the sizzling summer vibes in Ms. Piper’s open-air pool.
As well as the food, there were stalls featuring local artisans selling jewellery, footwear, artwork, thatch hats and baskets, and face-painting for the children. Music from local artists, including Stuart Wilson, Dan Ebanks, Hi-Tide and DJ Cardiac, kept the party vibes going under well into the evening.
Event attendee Ciara D’Arcy decided to come along with some friends after reading about the event on social media.
“There was a fabulous atmosphere and it was the perfect setting to enjoy some music, food and drinks,” she said. “The paella was delicious, but for me, the real star of the show was the picanha sandwich.”

With the event attracting a large Spanish crowd, the pressure was on the chef to deliver an authentic experience but, judging by the appreciative comments, the cooking was more than up to the task.
“Pairing paella with Estrella, a Spanish beer, is always a winner,” said Spanish native Juan Rincon, who attended the event with friends and family. “The huge picanha sandwich was very tasty, too, and it was good to see such a variety of musicians and art displays. It was great for all the family. My daughter couldn’t say no to face painting and a day in the pool!”
