Finance and Education Minister Rolston Anglin is applying for planning permission to build two apartment blocks in West Bay, but the plan has met with objections.
The application for a 11,700-square-foot two-building, 14-unit development with a cabana and a swimming pool was submitted more than a year ago and has now come before the Central Planning Authority.
Anglin is working with EKT Architecture on the project, which is proposed for North West Point Road in a Low Density Residential Zone.
Housing shortage
In a letter to the planning board, the company said that Anglin was requesting six additional apartment units and a reduced setback to the rear of the property, adding: “My client also requests that the board considers the current lack of available housing on island and that … approving this project would result in a net benefit as the development doesn’t negatively impact the surrounding properties.”
Anglin himself told the Compass at the “setback variance is very small and due to the land being long and narrow”, and added that his design “should wind up with less people than if I designed for the amount of bedrooms allowed”.

The proposed project has two parking spaces per unit whereas the planning law requires 1.5 per unit.
Eleven letters of objections were initially filed against the project back in 2024 but just a few remain for various reasons. The Central Planning Authority is still waiting to hear from the National Roads Authority on the project and will announce its decision in due course after it has all the information.
