Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. was recognised by the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) at the CARILEC CEO’s and Leadership Conference 2026 on 18 May in Barbados, where the company received three major awards at the inaugural CARILEC Awards of Excellence. CUC was one of three utilities to win the award for the ‘Overall Best Performing Utility’.

CUC was honored with:

  • Overall Best Performing Utility (Gold Award)
  • Best Service Reliability (Gold Award)
  • Best Environmental Performance (Gold Award, shared)

The CARILEC Awards of Excellence, introduced in 2026, recognises outstanding performance and achievement across the Caribbean electric utility sector, using data submitted by member utilities through CARILEC’s Benchmarking and Tariff Reports.

The Overall Best Performing Utility Award recognises exceptional all-round performance across key operational, financial, service, safety, environmental and sustainability indicators. The award celebrates a utility that demonstrates excellence, resilience, innovation and strong leadership in serving its customers and advancing the regional energy sector. CUC’s first place in this category demonstrates the significant effort the company has put forward in an effort to abide by its mission: To be a leader in the growth of our community by delivering safe, reliable energy services at competitive costs, and with respect to the environment while being a model corporate citizen and providing a fair return to its shareholders.

In addition, CUC received the Service Reliability Award. This award recognises a utility
that has demonstrated outstanding performance in delivering consistent, dependable
electricity service to customers. The award highlights a utility that demonstrates the
importance of strong system reliability, effective outage management and continuous
investment in resilient infrastructure to keep communities powered and connected.

demonstrating exceptional commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship,
and responsible energy practices.  CARILEC described the award as recognition of
efforts to reduce environmental impact, enhance operational sustainability and
support the Caribbean’s transition to cleaner, more resilient energy systems. This award
reflects CUC’s efforts to reduce environmental impact, improve operational
sustainability and contribute to the Caribbean’s transition toward cleaner, more
resilient energy systems.

The awards reinforce that CUC operates at a standard comparable with the very best utilities in the region, strengthening Cayman’s reputation for innovation, reliability and leadership and a catalyst for economic growth.

President and CEO, Richard Hew, said, “We are extremely proud of these achievements through the dedication, expertise and commitment of our team and we are especially pleased to be recognised by our peers and colleagues within the industry in the region. Our company aims to provide excellent service to our customers through innovative projects that drive real value and we are proud to represent the Cayman Islands on the regional stage and to contribute to advancing energy excellence across the Caribbean.”

CUC remains committed to delivering reliable, sustainable, and high-quality energy solutions while continuing to invest in the future of Cayman’s energy infrastructure.
