Hoffman returns as managing partner of Harneys Cayman Islands

Nick Hoffman is replacing Carolynn Vivian as managing partner of Harneys Cayman Islands, returning to a role that he held until 2024.

The offshore law firm has seen significant change in recent years. In July 2024, Harneys completed the sale of its fiduciary business to private equity firm Hillhouse. Harneys Fiduciary subsequently joined the Hillhouse-backed Ascentium business services platform before rebranding as Ascentium in April 2026.

A Harneys press release said that Vivian, who was appointed in April 2024, “oversaw the transition of the Cayman office from the fiduciary business to a stand-alone law firm entity”. With that work presumably complete, Hoffman returns to a role that he held from 2020 to 2024.

William Peake, global managing partner at Harneys, hailed Hoffman as an “exceptional” leader. In a joint tribute to both Hoffman and another Harneys managing partner in the British Virgin Islands, Peake said: “Their impressive track records, strong client relationships, and deep understanding of the legal landscapes in their respective jurisdictions make them ideally placed to lead our offices into the future.”

Hoffman specialises in insolvency and restructuring, financial services litigation, company disputes and fraud. The press release notes that he acts for banks, multinational corporations and financial services professionals and will continue as the global head of the firm’s Dispute Resolution team.

The press release, which thanked Vivian for her “outstanding leadership”, noted that she “will continue in her role as group general counsel, leading the firm’s in-house legal function across the Harneys group”.
