“[We have] no confirmed evidence of a firearm involved,” said RCIPS Chief Inspector Frank Owens.
According to Chief Inspector Owens, at about 9.50pm Friday, a 56-year-old male driver from a local pizza company was attempting to make a delivery to a home in Victory Avenue, George Town.
As the driver approached the residence on foot he was attacked by a group of males. The victim was struck to the back of the head and fell to the ground.
Mr. Owens said the suspects stole a wallet and other personal items belonging to the victim.
Police were called by residents and made a search of the area. No arrests were reported. The victim was treated at the scene by a medic unit and transported to George Town Hospital.
The scene was cordoned off and a full investigation was commenced, police said. The victim was later discharged from hospital after being treated for injuries to his head.
No description of the suspects was given and no other witnesses as yet have come forward with any information, police said.
Initial reports stated that shots had been fired in the commission of the robbery, but Mr. Owens did not state in a press release issued Saturday that any shootings had occurred related to the robbery in the Prospect area.
