The Coast Guard has arrested two men for alleged ganja smuggling after they were alerted to a suspicious boat in Cayman waters by a police helicopter.
Coast Guard vessels pulled the boat over off the south coast of Grand Cayman and the crew discovered “numerous parcels believed to contain illicit goods”.
A police spokeswoman said the boat was impounded and the two men on board detained and handed over to police.
She added, “The two men found on board the vessel were subsequently arrested on suspicion of importation of ganja and other related offences.
“They have been taken into custody where they currently remain pending further investigations.”
The incident happened just after midnight in the Frank Sound area of the island.
People living near the coast were alerted to the drama offshore when dogs started to bark and high-powered searchlights lit up the Coast Guard target.
