Caymanian physician Dr. Ciara Best has joined the medical team at the Health Services Authority.
Dr. Best, a graduate of John Gray High School, recently returned home to Cayman from Jamaica to begin practising here.
She received her MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, and plans to spend some time with the Health Services Authority before specialising.
Prior to joining the Health Services Authority, Dr. Best interned at Cornwall Regional Hospital in Jamaica where she rotated through the Internal Medicine, General Surgery, OB/GYN and Paediatrics departments for a period of three months apiece.
She previously spent six months as the Senior House Officer in Pathology and has also worked in the Accident and Emergency department at the hospital.
“The welcome by both staff and patients has been a very warm one and I am glad to have been able to return home and to be of service to the people,” said Dr. Best, who is currently working on the Medical Ward at the Cayman Islands Hospital.
Chief Executive Officer of the Health Services Authority Lizzette Yearwood said she was proud to welcome another returning Caymanian doctor to the team.
“Dr. Best is a wonderful and talented asset and we look forward to her input in the years ahead. We are confident that she will continue to enhance our services and we are grateful that she has chosen to practise medicine with us,” Ms Yearwood said.
