Stingrays burn up again

The Cayman National Sprint Meet hosted by the Stingray Swim Club of Grand Cayman at the Lions Aquatic Centre is on Saturday,

This meet is the traditional start to the year for Cayman’s swimmers and it focuses on getting back in the pool in a competitive environment after the holidays and is also about having fun.

“Cayman National is proud to be a sponsor of the sprint meet,” said Claudia Welds of Cayman National. “We know that many of Cayman’s youth struggle with issues such as obesity, self-confidence and discipline. Swimming is a sport which is, by its very nature, excellent exercise. It is a life skill and for those who choose to pursue it as a primary sport the discipline which comes from committing to training is unequal. We applaud all the swimmers who are participating this weekend and as the event.”

Warm up starts at 8am and the competitive action starts at 9am. As it is a sprint meet races will be 25 metres for the 6&U and 8&U age groups and 50 metres for the older groups of 10&U, 12&U and 13&Over.

“This is always a great way to start 2012 for our swimmers,” said Dr Brenda McGrath, President of the Stingray Swim Club. “We look forward to seeing everyone in the pool, on the deck or in the stands supporting the swimmers and encourage anyone who can to volunteer and be a part of the action. But most importantly, we thank Cayman National for their continued support of this annual swim meet.”
