Masked thieves used a large rock to smash their way through a glass door into a George Town gas station early Friday morning.
The owner of the Texaco StarMart on Shedden Road, Craig Ebanks, said CCTV footage showed two men break into the store around 1.30am.
The gas station remained closed early Friday morning as a police forensic team examined the scene. It was not immediately known what, if anything, had been taken.
Staff said they showed up for work at 5.30am to find police at the gas station, which was cordoned off, and the door smashed.
Police said they received a report of the burglary at 5.15am. They said both men who broke into the store were masked.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service has reported the investigation is continuing.
Anyone who has any information regarding the crime, or who saw anything suspicious in the area of the gas station overnight, should contact George Town CID on 949-4222, the RCIPS tip-line 949-7777 or Crime Stoppers 800-8477 (TIPS).
