Students get a chance to learn how to make video

Young people aged between 10 and 17 have until 31 January to enter their submissions for the Young Image Makers Competition.

The winners will be jetting off to New York City, all expenses paid, to spend a week at the New York Film Academy.

Open to all

The competition is open to all students who have been resident on the Islands for more than a year. In order to enter, students must make a short film, just one to three minutes long, on any recording device they may have: camera, phone, video camera, etc. and save it onto a memory stick.

Entries can be sent or delivered to either the Cayman National Cultural Foundation or the Cayman Islands Film Commission.

A panel of judges will select a shortlist of 15 filmmakers who will be invited to attend a film making workshop where they will learn the essentials of directing, editing and writing.

Putting this new found knowledge into practice they will go off and make a second film.

These 15 films will be screened at the FJ Harquail Theatre on 21 April and the winners will be announced then.

All of the entries will then be divided into two age groups: 10-13 and 14-17.
