Cayman International School is the winner of KPMG Brain Bowl Academic tournament.
Students Tyson Harvey, Moses Ebanks, Juliana Wood and Jennifer Moseley earned the title as school’s top team and brought back the trophy for teacher and adviser Brad Kovach.
The tournament, staged at KPMG offices on Friday, united local schools and encouraged pupils to stretch their academic abilities.
Students from John Gray, Clifton Hunter, Cayman Academy, Triple C, Cayman Prep and St. Ignatius knocked heads at the chance to win a number of prizes.
“We wanted to do something different that reaches out to the youth and highlights these intellectual achievements.
The Brain Bowl provides the opportunity for local students to experience an academic competition with their student peers across the Island. With seven high schools participating, it was a good competition,” said Sheenah Hislop, partner.
The Brain Bowl, much like the television trivia game show Jeopardy, witnessed questions geared toward high school students and relevant academic subjects. Each team had four players from grades 8 through 11.
The tournament was the brainchild of Cindy Reid of KMPG, as part of the company’s local recruitment and scholarship programme drive to reach out to high school students.
Many KPMG partners and staff members served as moderators, judges and scorekeepers.
Organisers said KPMG is hoping to make the tournament an annual event.
