Maples and Calder
Maples and Calder has granted its 2012 non-legal scholarships to Abigail Bush, Briana Bergstrom, Chevis Dilbert, Jovonnie Anglin, Lloyd Barker and Jordan Ebanks.
Henry Smith, global managing partner at Maples said, “In addition to the academic successes of each of these talented individuals’ to date, we were equally impressed by how well-rounded they were overall, in their collective extra-curricular activities, work experience and community service. We’re delighted to assist these dedicated students in achieving their goals.”
Maples and Calder is one of only two law firms on the island which has implemented a non-legal scholarship programme. The programme, which has been running for more than 10 years, provides partial funding for school expenses each year for the duration of the student’s tertiary education. It is intended to supplement the student’s financial assistance package.
The Maples non-legal scholarship will assist the six recipients in obtaining a variety of degrees, including a bachelor’s degree in Childhood Studies from the University of Bristol, a master’s degree in child development and education from Oxford University, a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Toronto, a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and physics at the University of Massachusetts-Boston, an undergraduate degree in business law with a minor in communication studies at Carleton University and a bachelor’s degree in information technology from Florida International University.
Ogier
Ogier Cayman announced today the appointment of articled clerk Ridhiima Kapoor for an 18-month term. She will join two other aspiring legal professionals, Michael Lockwood and Alison Maxwell, who were admitted to the programme in September 2011. Articled clerks work alongside partners and associates to gain exposure to top-tier international work, develop their expertise across Ogier’s main service lines and work on cases and transactions on a rotational basis.
Ms Kapoor completed her bachelor of laws degree from the University of Nottingham in 2011 and most recently finished her Legal Practice Course with commendation from the College of Law (Moorgate) in the United Kingdom. A recipient of numerous honours and scholarships throughout her academic career, Ms Kapoor holds an International Baccalaureate diploma from the United World College of the Adriatic in Italy and is a graduate of St. Ignatius High School, obtaining her IGSCE in 2005.
“Ridhiima has had an exceptional academic career and we are confident she will continue to succeed in this next phase of her legal education,” said Nick Rogers, managing partner, Ogier Cayman. “We believe she is an exemplary young Caymanian and we are looking forward to having her complete her articles at Ogier as part of her entry into the legal profession.”
Ogier will be interviewing additional articled clerk applicants to start in March 2013. Applications will be accepted starting December 2012. Interested candidates should contact [email protected] for more information.
