Dick Francis was a big fan of Cayman and a big fan of animals. That’s why we are pleased to report that some of the late author’s library will be auctioned off on Thursday, 27 September in aid of the Cayman Islands Humane Society.
Two years ago, Dick’s family gave his collection to the Book Loft, the mighty second-hand bookstore that seriously has been a lifesaver for Weekender over the years.
Some of the collection is comprised of autographed copies, dedications to the author, personal messages and letters. Casanova’s is the venue for the book and memorabilia auction and all will be sold off by silent auction between 7 and 9pm. All proceeds will be going to the animals at the shelter.
First editions
There are many first editions which are signed by the likes of Laura Crum, Bill Bryson, Davies Tydings Ditzen, Noah Richler, Eric Wright and, indeed, Dick Francis himself. Some of these books are valuable and rare, so this is an opportunity to get a real artefact into your collection whilst helping a great cause.
There are far too many cool books on offer for us to mention here, so your best bet is to get in touch with [email protected] for more details. You can also preview the books via the Cayman Islands Humane Society’s website.
There’ll be a cash bar on the day and people are encouraged to get in contact with organisers so that they may have an idea of the space and layout.
Happy bidding! Nobody’s a loser in this one.
