About 9.05am, police said the woman was walking along Tigris Street near Shedden Road, when the bicyclist approached her from behind. He grabbed the gold necklace – which consisted of a chain and Spanish coin – from around her neck and rode off toward Myles Lane.
The woman sustained a slight neck injury in the incident but did not require any medical treatment.
The suspect has been described as between 15-21 years of age, of slim build with a dark complexion. He had short dark afro-style hair and was wearing a black shirt and dark coloured pants. The bicycle was also dark in colour, according to police.
Anyone who was in the area this morning and witnessed the incident, or the cyclist making off from the scene, is asked to contact DC Terryanne Iton of George Town CID on 325-6705.
