Bag a bargain at garage sale

Bargain hunters will have to get up a little earlier than usual if they want to snag some good deals this weekend.

Community-minded business conglomerate DMS is organising the third annual garage sale in the parking lot of Kirk Market.

The sale runs from 6 to 9am with plenty of people clearing out their closets and getting rid of those games/clothes/toys/small appliances that haven’t seen the light of day in over a year. It’s $25 if you want to reserve a space, and your takings are yours at the end of the day.

Alternatively, go along as a browser and see what kind of treasures you can find.

We did say the folks at DMS were a community-minded bunch of people though, because this whole sale is organised in support of the Humane Society.

All registration fees will be donated to the Humane Society and DMS and Saxon MG staff will also coordinate and man a booth of donated items, proceeds from which will go to the shelter.

There are also prizes to be won through the Adoption Lotto. Don’t be scared – prizes are not dogs and cats you will be obliged to take home with you. It’s a raffle but instead of a ticket you choose a cat- or dog-shaped stuffed toy. The number on your dog or cat corresponds to the prize you win – which could be just another sunset cruise, or if you hit the jackpot, could be a lollipop!

Last year, DMS generously matched the funds raised through registration fees, the sale of donated items and the raffle, which enabled them to give the Humane Society $2,500 in total.

The funds raised this year will be to toward the shelter’s latest spay and neuter campaign.
