CUC helps footballers light up

Academy Sports Club is busy on the pitch.

With four youth teams, a premier division men’s team, a Saturday morning junior football program and most recently, the introduction of a football program for children with autism, Academy’s field on Outpost Street in George Town is in high demand.

Academy’s main pitch and scrimmage field are both overflowing with football action each evening and often there are not enough daylight hours for all the teams to get in proper training. This is about to change thanks to the Caribbean Utilities Company.

Last week, CUC donated equipment and several of its crew members gave personal time to assist the club with the installation of floodlights on the scrimmage field.

According to Academy’s technical director Virgil Seymour, “The lights will allow us to train the senior team later in the evening, freeing up the field use for our youth teams and CIFA games during peak after school hours.”

Academy’s board president Dave Scott noted, “We are very grateful for the generosity of CUC and their staff. We could not have completed this project without their support.”

Richard Hew, president and CEO of CUC, said, “CUC is pleased to assist with the lighting of the area which we know will be of benefit to all those who use the facility. This project highlights our ongoing commitment to our Community Involvement program, and our employees were happy to volunteer their time and talent to this project.”
