Flag football wants local kids to return to the classroom on the right foot.
The Cayman Islands Flag Football Association is putting on a Back to School Supply Drive. The initiative started over the weekend and runs until Aug. 30 at the Ed Bush Sports Centre in West Bay. The association is looking to collect school supplies for children across Cayman who are set to start the fall semester.
In particular, the group is looking for backpacks, pencils, pens, whiteout, crayons, 3-ring binders, notebooks, highlighters and color pencils. Items can be placed in donation bins at the field from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
News of the drive comes as the association heads towards the second half of its Digicel Premier League. The summer competition, which stages games every Saturday at Ed Bush, serves as the national adult league. On the men’s side, the frontrunners have been 2013 champions the Burger King Panthers, who feature talents like Chris Lucas, perennial contenders dms West Bay Hellcats, who have stars like Nigel Solomon, and rookie club Island Heritage Predators, who boast newcomers like Jordan Stubblefield.
Last year’s winners, the Androgroup Killa-Panthers, pace the women’s side along with perennial contenders the Dominoes Lynx and the Lady Sharks.
