Not many parents wait nearly three years to cut their son’s hair, but Danni Kaur and her husband Michael Wheaton decided to only recently take their 3-year-old son Arjan to a salon for the first time.
They had to wait until his hair was at least 10 inches long in order to donate it to Locks of Love, an organization based in West Palm Beach, Florida, that creates high-quality hair prosthetics for financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
“In the beginning, I had been putting [the haircut] off because I loved his curls,” Kaur confesses, “but then Dr. James Robertson, his physician, asked if we had considered donating his hair to Locks of Love, since it only had to grow a bit longer in order to qualify.”
Hairstylist AnnMarie Walton at the La Mer Spa was prepared for the child to get upset over the procedure, but in the end he was about the only one taking it in easy stride. The cupcakes that were brought along probably helped.
His hair will be sent to Florida in the next week, and in the meantime, he can enjoy a cooler head for the rest of the summer.
