Grants help 16 students with college expenses

Sixteen first-year college students won’t have to worry about paying for living expenses thanks to a grant provided by the National Council of Voluntary Organizations and a $1,000 donation from the John Gray Memorial Fund Committee.

Through the “top up fund,” US$22,000 was distributed to the Caymanian students who want to attend college or university but can’t afford their living expenses.

Five of the students are past recipients of the grant, and all must maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA in order to continue to receive funding. The other 11 applicants are first-time recipients.

The students are studying a wide range of courses including accounting, marine engineering, economics, digital design, food service management, information technology and education.

The grant is named in honor of the deceased Rev. John Rae Gray, a former NCVO Council and Executive Committee member, United Church minister, and high school principal.
