Loose cow creates lunchtime traffic hazard

Bemused motorists reported a cow being towed behind a truck along a busy George Town road Thursday afternoon.

Police and animal welfare activists were called to the scene near the Compass Centre at around midday. Witnesses said the cow had been tied to the back of a pickup truck with a length of rope and was being towed along the highway.

At one point a calf, which was initially also tied to the truck, got loose and was running in and out of traffic on North Sound Road.

Witnesses said the cow, apparently unable to keep up with the truck, fell over at one point and was dragged along the road for a short period.

Eventually, the cow’s owner stopped the vehicle and dragged the cow into a car park.

The man, who did not want to be named, told the Cayman Compass the cow and its calf, which he had recently purchased, had escaped from where they were kept on land close to the road. He said he was trying to get them back before there was an accident.

Michelle Sabti, a director at the Humane Society who was on the scene, said the organization had been inundated with complaints from panicked drivers.

She said the society would be filing a complaint for animal cruelty. Police attended but did not take any immediate action against the cow’s owner.

Ms. Sabti said, “Why would anyone be attempting to tow a cow in a busy road at high speed in the middle of the afternoon? People were calling us, honking and screaming. There could have been a major accident.”

She said she was amazed the man had been left in control of the animals.

  1. Sorry, but it’s not included in Gandhi’s works.

If you can find the quote, please reference the volume and location.
And I do disagree – it’s an obvious over-generalization that get’s too much credit because it’s attributed to Gandhi and is used by too many. Classic appeal to authority fallacy. I could just was easily say the same thing and replace the word animals with the word mosquitoes or cockroaches and very few would agree, but it’s the exact same. Of course maybe when you say animals you only mean non pests and non creepy crawly animals.
I’m not saying that someone dragging a cow and calf behind his truck is the right thing to do, but the quote is incorrect. I do however agree with J Taylor’s version.
