Pet owners need to take responsibility

People who acquire a dog as a pet are taking the responsibility to care for the animal in every way.

The dog looks to its human for food, water, shelter, companionship and love.

Dogs are so forgiving and the most loyal creature God every made.

While in Cayman I found it very strange to see so many dogs wandering around the island.

I think that outlawing breeds is wrong for many reasons.

First of all many dogs on the list are not even aggressive.

Dogs that are guardians are assumed to be guard dogs, which is not the case.

We need to get back to basics.

If you want a dog – get set up first. Make sure that you have time for a pet, make sure you have a safe environment for your pet, make sure that you will keep this pet and love it and provide for it for the rest of its life – which means you keep the dog.

You do not get rid of it when it’s not that cute little puppy you brought home.

Having an animal should be a lifelong commitment. If you can’t commit to it for life, get a pet rock.

Dexter should have been given the chance of a home, not death.

The Island needs to revamp its system for the betterment of the animals and start educating people on pet responsibility.
