Chalkfest frenzy set to grip Cayman

The National Gallery in conjunction with the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s Cayfest will be holding its fifth annual Chalkfest at Camana Bay’s north car park this Saturday, from 3pm to 6pm.

Chalkfest, sponsored each year by Walkers, is a fun-filled event for all ages and is based on the ancient art of street painting

This year, artist Michael Kirby, who is now based in Baltimore, will be bringing his talent of 3-D creations in chalk to the pavement here in Cayman. Michael Kirby is one of the world’s best street artists and is renowned for his temporary designs. He has studied extensively in both Italy and Mexico, and gained considerable experience travelling the world to share his spectacular murals.

The National Gallery is pleased to announce that Michael Kirby will also lead a free workshop for interested parties. This workshop will share the history of Ephemeral Murals, as well as how they are created, and will be held the day after the event, this Sunday at Camana Bay, from 9am to 12 noon.

Participants of the Chalkfest can win over 30 prizes including airline tickets for first, second or third place.

The event is free to enter. You may only enter in one category. Chalk will be provided.

In another added fun feature the Cayman Islands Fire Service will be on hand to hose down hot ‘Chalkers’ and those interested in getting wet should wear or bring swimwear.
