RCIPS chief leaving

Acting Police Commissioner David George will be leaving the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service later this month, the Caymanian Compass has learned.

Mr. George’s replacement has not been officially named, however an announcement is expected about the matter as early as today.

The UK Metropolitan Police veteran has been in the Cayman Islands since late March, serving as a temporary replacement for ousted Commissioner Stuart Kernohan who is on required leave following an investigation into alleged misconduct in a public office.

Mr. George has never left the service of the UK Met since his appointment by Governor Jack, and has never publicly expressed any desire to continue as police commissioner in Cayman.

A police spokesperson declined to comment about the acting commissioner’s departure, as did the Governor’s office.
