Be prepared for the worst when putting together you hurricane supplies, which you will need during and after the storm. Especially parents with small children and babies, and those caring for the sick or elderly, should make sure they have special needs supplies and medications.
If you are going to a shelter, you have to pack your own supplies, as shelter wardens will not be able to supply you with special needs items.
People on prescription medication should have a 2-week supply. For refills, the Pharmacy at the Cayman Islands Hospital will be open from 6:00am until 9:00am today (Friday, 7 November).
Patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases, asthma, lung diseases or hypertension and who require additional medication should check now to ensure you have sufficient quantities.
Other special needs items should include:

- A few favorite small toys or games
The following shelters are open for Hurricane Paloma:
These Hurricane Shelters will be open at 7:00 am today (Friday, 7 November):
East End Civic Centre; North Side Civic Centre; Bodden Town Primary; the UCCI Hall (formerly the Community College); John Cumber Primary Hall; the Breakers Community Centre. All these shelters (with the exception of Breakers) also have Emergency Medical Centres.
If you decide to go to a shelter take the following:
3-4 days supply of food and drink that does not need cooking.
Can opener.
3-4 days supply of water (one gallon per day per person).
First aid kit that includes prescription medications.
Special needs items for infants (formula, bottles, diapers).
Special needs items for elderly or disabled family members.
If you have small children, do not forget to bring at least one of their favourite foods (e.g., breakfast cereal) and something to keep them occupied.
Bedding (sleeping bags, pillows).
Battery-powered radio, flashlight and extra batteries.
A change of clothes.
Extra set of car keys, credit cards, cash.
Passports and important family papers.
Reading materials and quiet games to help pass time and keep children occupied.
Car charger for your cell phone.
Do NOT take: Pets; cigarettes, other tobacco products or illegal drugs; alcohol; weapons; cooking equipment; and furniture.
Also note that cots and air mattresses may not be allowed because of limited space.
A management team of trained civil servants and volunteers are in charge of the shelters.
