Monster Media has organised its first of what will be an annual charity golf tournament, tomorrow. It’s called the Crown of Light Governor’s Cup.
It’s at the North Sound Club Golf Course with the proceeds benefiting the Cayman Islands chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is an international non-profit mentoring programme started in the Cayman Islands back in the mid ’80s by Reverend Stanwyck Myles, the NCVO and other organisations.
Clifton Gayle, executive director of Big Brother Big Sisters said: ‘Our aim at Big Brothers Big Sisters is to support families who have a lot of responsibilities in their lives and would welcome additional support.
‘Our mission is to make a difference in the lives of children and youth in the Cayman Island and we hope to assist them in achieving their highest human potential.
‘We’re delighted to be the benefiting charity for the Governor’s Cup event as this kind of support allows us to continue our missions and provide as many children as we can with mentors.’
Kenny Rankin, managing director of Monster Media, said: ‘We started to work on the Governor’s Cup earlier this year with Big Brothers Big Sisters and we hope to see the Governor’s Cup become a permanent fixture on our events calendar.’
The Governor’s Cup promises to bring a lot of excitement to the green, giving golfers four opportunities to hit a hole-in-one for huge prizes; US$100,000 cash from the Crown of Light Diamond available at Diamonds International, a 2009 Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 from Autohaus, a Kawasaki Ultra 250X supercharged Jet Ski from Sports Supply and a Bose Sound System from Insite Media.
Premier sponsor Butterfield Bank will be hosting the Longest Drive offering the winner a Butterfield Bank gift bag including a new Blackberry Bold handset.
Butterfield’s Searlina Bodden said: ‘Our private banking team is thrilled to be participating in an event that will help Big Brothers Big Sisters continue to grow and offer mentoring to the youth of the Cayman Islands.’
The registration drive for the Crown of Light Governor’s Cup was officially opened a month ago at the weekly party After Eight in the Silver Palm Lounge of the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.
Guests were given a taste of what is to come at the golf tournament with all the top prizes on display.
‘Events such as this are only possible through the participation of our sponsors, The Crown of Light, Autohaus, Butterfield Bank Private banking, Kawasaki, Michelob Ultra, Insite Media, Goldfield Cayman and all of our participating hole sponsors,’ Kenny Rankin said. ‘Everyone has shown a tremendous amount of support to the event for Big Brothers Big Sisters and we are looking forward to a fun day, out on The Green for everyone involved.’
Golfers will receive a deluxe registration pack, including a players swag bag with their official Governor’s Cup golf shirt and sponsors surprises, greens fees, lunch on the course provided by PD’s Pub, drinks provided by Michelob Ultra and an invitation to the awards reception afterward on the rooftop at Cayman Beach Suites.
The tournament offers golfers the option of two tee off times either 8am or 1pm, following the format of a shotgun start with a four-man scramble.
The tournament will be followed by an evening reception on the roof top at Cayman Beach Suites, from 7pm.
