Philippoussis starts well

The opening day of the Legends tennis tournament at the Residences at the Ritz-Carlton saw two entertaining game.

The Legends Championships is one of the eight events around the world featuring the greatest names in tennis over the age of 30. The Ritz-Carlton tournament lasts until Sunday.

Mark Philippoussis featured in the first match and he beat last year’s losing finalist South Africa’s Wayne Ferreira in a three set thriller.

The match went 7-6. 6-4 and a tie breaker third set that the giant Australian won 13-11.

In the second game Swedish favourite Mats Wilander started briskly winning the first two games against American Jimmy Arias.

But then Arias found his rhythm in the blustery conditions and made few errors in running out a 6-2, 6-2 winner.
