Norman Bodden has relaunched the
Ena Merren Scholarship Fund at the Triple C School in Grand Cayman.
Mr. Bodden is the managing director
of Bodden and Bodden, a real estate and private practice law firms. He started the fund to show his appreciation
to the late Ms. Merren for helping him and his family attend in the early days
of the school.
“Without Miss Ena’s intervention in
my life, I know I would not have gotten a good education and would not have
been able to both receive from and contribute to our islands’ development,” he
said. “I hope the fund can be perpetuated
by those people who have received and are receiving scholarships from the
fund.”
Mr. Bodden was a member of the
Legislative Assembly for many years and Minister of Tourism for eight
years. His children attended Triple C
School and he currently has three grandchildren at the school.
Several corporate sponsors have
agreed to invest in the fund. So far,
$12,000 has been contributed with other commitments made.
Sadie Jurgens, mother of a Triple C
student, says her daughter’s future is bright because of the fund.
“I am delighted and thankful that
my daughter received a scholarship to attend Triple C School and prepare
herself for college,” she said.
Dale Ebanks, a father of one of the
fund’s recipients, also showed his appreciation.
“I am so pleased that
Kim has been awarded this scholarship to complete her high school education,”
he said. “We’ll never forget the
goodness of the school.”
