Elected officials from North Side
and East End will hold public meetings in their districts next week to discuss
the proposed new port development in East End.
East End MLA Arden McLean will host
a meeting at the Civic Centre in East End at 8pm on Monday, 8 November, and
North Side MLA Ezzard Miller will host his meeting at the Civic Centre in North
Side at 8pm on Tuesday, 9 November.
The politicians said the port issue
had stirred up much controversy and debate in their districts and they are
holding the meetings to gauge their constituents’ opinions and share
information with them.
The developer of the proposed
multi-use port project in the High Rock area of East End, Joseph Imparato, has
hired public relations company AtWater Ltd to keep the public informed about
the project and will also hold a series of public meetings. Dates for those
meetings have not been released.
The 1,500-acre port site would
incorporate a cruise ship home port, including a hotel and shopping area; a
cargo port; a container storage facility that would be used for transhipment; a
storage facility for fuels; and a mega yacht facility.
