A triple shooting was reported early Wednesday morning in the area near East End’s annual Heritage Day event, the Caymanian Compass has learned.
The victims’ conditions were not specified, although sources informed the Compass that none had been killed.
According to witnesses, the shooting occurred around 1.40am in the street near the East End MLA office. The location is close to where the annual Heritage Day street party had been held.
Event organiser Alvin McLaughlin said the shooting scene was about 400 yards away from the festival site and that the street party had wrapped up about half an hour before shots rang out.
“I was home in bed by the time I got the call about what happened,” Mr. McLaughlin said. “The event was already over.”
Royal Cayman Islands Police officers said the three victims were men, and all were being treated at hospital Wednesday morning.
According to investigators, three men and one woman were within a vehicle in East End across the road from the Texaco petrol station. As they were about to drive off from the area, police said a man ran towards the car and began shooting at the occupants.
The three men within the car suffered various injuries and the woman escaped without being struck by the bullets.
Police said the gunman ran off from the scene and was last spotted heading into a large crowd which had gathered at the location.
Armed officers patrolling the area arrived on the scene immediately. A cordon was put in place and first aid was administered to the injured men, police said.
The shooting victims’ injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
No arrests have been reported and police are asking anyone who was in the area at the relevant time to come forward.
Information can be passed to Bodden Town CID on 947-2220 or Crime Stoppers 800-TIPS (8477).

A shooting, in Cayman! No …Way ….
I, for one, am shocked.
This is a real shame that this has happened. The Heritage Day at the East End was a really great family event. I went up to the East End yesterday and there was a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Please don’t let these small minded, idiotic people ruin a great Heritage Day. Cayman come out and support your districts!
